UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL

Benjamin Franklin published this cartoon on May 9, 1754 to show the mortal peril of division in the original colonies. The colonies did join and they lived their dream of freedom, winning the Revolutionary War, and becoming The United States of America.
Once again, we are under attack from would-be dictators who openly threaten to rob us of our rights, our votes, and our freedoms. These authoritarians scapegoat some Americans, blaming them and attacking them as undeserving of the promise of liberty and justice for all. They want to weaken us with fear and hatred. The divisions are like gashes, wounds in the body politic.
But we can heal by embracing the full humanity of ALL Americans. This was our Founding Fathers’ inspiration for our democracy. America has often tragically failed to live up to its own values, but even now we can recommit to government of the people, by the people, and for the people, ALL of the American people.
We have updated Ben Franklin’s image to show the true strength and vibrancy of a nation where ALL of us matter equally.

ABOUT AKA STUDIOS

We set out to find an image that could spark a new fire of freedom and fellowship in our nation: our unity, our strength in numbers, our focus on the future.
We know that humans seek fellowship and need to see others who believe what they believe. As one wise pundit says, “People think the thing they think people like them think.”
Symbols have the power to tell the world what we think. We know that only repetition has the power to break through the noise. We need our own merch to send our message.
We know that valiant voters are the true heroes and will reject tyranny and bigotry. We know America’s diversity is our strength and our love will overpower our fear. We know we can build a beautiful future based on the highest ideals of the past and embracing the true glory of America: its dazzling variety.
